Steps to Getting Started at MHCC

Pro Tip: When you decide to go to college, the first thing to consider is how you will pay for school. If you are applying for financial aid you want to complete the FAFSA/ORSAA at mhcc.edu/ApplyingFinAid. Also, be sure to explore other ways to cover costs including scholarships, employer reimbursement opportunities, unemployment incentives, etc. If you are paying out of pocket, a community college like Mt. Hood is a great option for a high quality education at a reasonable price. MHCC also offers interest-free payment plans to eligible students.

1. Apply for Admission

Complete the general admission form online. You will receive a “Welcome” email with your MHCC Student ID, password, and instructions on what to do next.

2. Determine Your Course Placement (in Reading, Writing & Math)

• New students: Please review available course placement options.
• Transfer students: Send us your official college transcripts from other schools. After you submit your transcripts, request a Transfer Evaluation.

3. Talk to Student Hub Staff

Get help with your first term schedule.

• New students: Stop by the Student Services Hub (AC2253, building 12) or email hub@mhcc.edu.
• Transfer students: Set up an appointment with an adviser by emailing advising.questions@mhcc.edu or call 503-491-7315.

4. Register for Classes

Log in to MyMHCC and register at my.mhcc.edu. For registration assistance, visit the Student Service Hub!

5. Complete the Next Steps

Now it’s time to set up the tools you will need to access your course materials online, communicate with instructors and fellow students and get help when needed.

• Determine which textbooks and supplies you need. The MHCC bookstore offers free economy shipping on all orders (excluding Marketplace texts) for a limited time before the start of each term. This free shipping period starts three weeks before the first day of the term, and ends one week before the first day of the term.
• Set up your student “Saints” email.
• If you're taking online, hybrid, or web-enhanced courses, check out Online Learning & Blackboard support.
• Log in to Navigate(Chrome or Firefox only) to view your personalized checklist, schedule advising appointments, create an education plan, and more.
